You are currently viewing More People Live In This Circle Than Outside Of It

Asia is obviously the biggest continent on Earth and there is a ton of incredible spots to discover over there. But some people don’t realize how densely populated it is, and more specifically how much more populated it is compared to the rest of the world.

Our main focus here at Flytrippers is to spot great flight deals, and we often find amazing discounts to fly to Asia. A lot of our followers are very interested by these, since it is such a far-away place and it is so different from what we’re used to seeing here.

There is a map that has been circulating online for a few years that gives a great perspective on Asia and a lot of you have probably already seen it, but since our posts about world maps are always very popular, I wanted to share this one to make sure everyone sees it.

The fact is, more people live inside this circle than outside of it.

It sure is impressive, but it isn’t all that surprising when you think of it. Many of the world’s most populous nations are in that area: China (ranked 1st), India (2nd), Indonesia (4th), Pakistan (6th), Bangladesh (7th) and Japan (10th).

Speaking of the most popular map we shared before (about Canada’s fake size), those among you with the keenest sense of observation might have noticed that in reality the above circle isn’t actually a circle, since maps always distort shapes on the globe.

Here is how a perfect circle would look on a map.

For those who would like more details, the circle that contains half the world’s population is in fact has a 4100 kilometer radius around the city of Guiyang, China.

Other very interesting facts: the circle contains both the world’s highest mountain (Everest) and the world’s deepest ocean trench (Mariana). There are more Muslims (no, they’re not all in the Middle East), Hindus and Buddhists in the circle than outside of it.

But most impressive is that ironically, in this circle that contains more than half of the world’s population… there is also the least densely populated country in the world (Mongolia).

For those interested in budget traveling, you should also note that many of the world’s cheapest travel destinations can be found in that circle, don’t miss the next part of our ranking later this week… subscribe to our free travel newsletter like 30,000+ Canadians and never miss a flight deal from your city (or a great travel tip).

Bottom Line

This map shows how surprising our world can be… and how densely populated Asia really is compared to the rest of the world. Don’t miss many more interesting maps very soon!
